Tools I use

I use Web Faction for hosting. This whole site runs on a $10/month server and hasn’t crashed in the few years I’ve had it. I initially chose it for the easy django setup and have been happy with how it handles wordpress as well. After a little bit of cache setup, it survives hacker news & reddit #1s pretty steadily.

I register and keep my domains on Start Logic. They used to be the cheapest and no longer are (about $13 per domain per year) but I’ve stuck around because the support has been exemplary and they don’t have any of the horror stories common in the industry from Go Daddy etc.

I’ve been happy with both Chartbeat and GoSquared for realtime analytics, but I’m currently trying to be less analytics-obsessed, so I’ve switched to the clunkier (and free) google analytics realtime view.

I use MaxMind for geolocation to say hello to UK locals.

And of course, the 3 essentials: vim, github, and jquery.

I type on a MacBook Air and that’s pretty much all there is to my working life.
